Rebecca Black caused an internet sensation when her single ‘Friday’ went viral, with an estimated 167 million views on YouTube.
The 14-year-old singer is hoping that she will be more than a joke one-hit wonder with today’s release of her second single “My Moment”.
The teen star’s new effort comes complete with familiar auto-tuning and catchy music and lyrics.
It is a little less cringe-worthy than her track ‘Friday’, which was shredded for its cringe-worthy lyrics and adolescent video.
The new song sees her have a dig at the critics of ‘Friday’, with her singing: ‘Weren’t you the one who said I would be nothing. But I’m about to prove you wrong.’
She adds: ‘Said I’m doing big things, things you’ve never dreamed of. I hope you’re happy because I’m about to blow up.’
The accompanying video is still cheesy with Rebecca spinning around and blowing bubbles, hanging out with her teenage friends in a limousine and going shopping but it’s mainly a song about her newfound glory and fame.
Black is seen getting her makeup done professionally, attending movie premieres, hosting the MTV Online Music Awards, reading newspaper articles about herself and getting her photograph taken with young fans.
She sings: ‘Haters, said I’ll see you later. Can’t talk to you right now, I’m getting my paper.’
A press release says that, while Friday ‘celebrated the coming of the weekend and good times,’ the new track is ‘a fairytale story, but it happened in real life.’
However, the music media aren’t too sure that the new number will have as much of an impact, with Rolling Stone writing: ‘It’s hard to imagine this song or video capturing anyone’s imagination in the way Friday did.’
Following the success of Friday which was an independent vanity project that her mother paid $4,000 to a Southern California music studio to produce, her follow up is a much more professional affair.
The star is also working on a five track EP, which will be released in August.
